Expansion for Pedigree Wholesale

Pedigree Wholesale, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of pet and aquatic products into the independent retail sector, is delighted to announce the opening of a new Distribution Centre for their Northern Depot. The new Depot, at over 20,000 square feet, is a third bigger than the original premises, and will allow Pedigree Wholesale to stock an additional 500 lines. Trading moved to the new Depot on the 5th December, ahead of the busy Christmas trading period.
Pedigree Wholesale have had a Distribution Centre in the northern region for over thirty years, proudly serving customers in North Wales, across to Humberside on the east coast and all the way up to the Scottish Borders. The new Depot is just six miles from the original Depot and is conveniently located on the outskirts of Leeds, with easy access to the M621, M1 and M62.
The state of the art Depot includes a fully automated voice picking system which guides each picker through their picking routine. As well as ensuring pick accuracy the system allows stocks to be managed more accurately, therefore maximising product availability. Additional investment has also been made into two new forklift trucks.
Steve Brown, Pedigree Wholesale’s Managing Director said “We’ve seen strong sales growth across the Northern region which resulted in us outgrowing the original premises. The decision to move was crucial in order to keep pace with our plans for continued expansion and allow increased stock levels to further improve availability. We saw record turnover in 2009/10, and over the last two years sales have increased by 25%. The move is a positive step for both our customers and our staff, who will benefit from the new working environment”.
The Pedigree Wholesale Group, which has been serving the independent pet and aquatic sector for nearly forty years, offers a comprehensive range of over 10,000 quality products from the market leading companies around the world. Its Head Office is located centrally in Nottingham and there are five regional distribution centres strategically located throughout the UK. As well as supplying dry goods Pedigree Wholesale have been importing and supplying live fish for over 35 years. Fish are shipped in every week and held in a purpose built, state of the art, Aquatic Livestock Facility located at the company’s Head Office in Gamston, Nottingham.
